Dear Journal,A few days ago my husband and I dropped our daughter off at his mothers house and we decided to go on a hike to clear our heads. For he and I the woods have always been a peaceful place to wander and feel, home. If you haven't already figured it out, I'm not exactly a normal person.
Moving on.
We decided to walk through the woods to an abandoned house I simply adore.

I love things of the past. Pieces of history, where they came from, and who used them, and what for? I'm a sucker for cemeteries' as well, particularly war related, or disease plots. I'm quite the morbid individual.
Any who,
On the way we took a slightly different path than normal. There are no roads to this house, No sign of a path or driveway. Its something surreal. Along this path my husband stops me and points up to a hunters chair mounted to a tree. It had to have been there 20+ years as the tree had grown around the straps and metal holding it in place. The creepy part? It looked as though it was still frequently used...
I have pictures of the chair, which i will add when I can find my camera.
Upon noticing the chair I began having an anxiety attack, breathing heavy, feeling feint. The house was now in our sight.
This house physically makes me ill, although I've been there easily 6-10 times. Years ago, my nervousness began when the perimeter of the house at one time, smelled of vinegar. I mean, Reeked of vinegar. Why would an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere smell like vinegar?

Where not sure of the age of the house, but it looks mid 1800's. There is an old well pump outside the main entrance to the right of the deck. You can see it in this picture. Sorry for a lack of better picture, there's only so much you can do when your freaked out of your gourd.

Here is a better shot of the main entrance. Upon entering the door, you come to a hall, with a room to the left, possibly a living area, and 2 rooms to the right, There are no signs of a bathroom, or cooking area. Theres no sign of piping for plumbing in the house. All the way to the right on the lower level is a closet space with a large, 40 lb rose quartz crystal in it on a shelf. It is the ONLY thing in the house.
I did some research on why a rose quartz crystal would be in the house. Here is what i found :
In the psychic and spiritual realms, rose quartz is often used to attract love, and for love spells. It is also used to ease the process of transition in dying. Rose quartz can be helpful for dream recall and dream work. *information obtained from :
[link]Fascinating to say the least. I also sent an email to :
[link] who said the same thing.
Moving on.

This picture is of a wall upstairs in the house. we now know its been abandoned for at least 32 years.

This is another shot of a room upstairs in the house. Its a crawlspace behind the wall.

Theres graffiti on every wall of the interior of the house as you can see. The next picture really caught my attention

Its hard to see, but mid height slightly to the right it says something about February 3rd 1967. February 3rd is my birthday. It also means the house has been abandoned for at least 41 years.

This stairwell leads to the attic of the house.. I've been up there once, it smells of bat feces. I wont be going up there again. The structural integrity of the house is far too unstable for that kind of stupidity.

Outside once more this is the entrance to the cellar of the house. We opted not to enter as this photo was taken when the house smelled of vinegar
So.. what is this whole journal post about you ask?
These.

This last visit, after seeing the chair in the tree, My husband found some cloth rotting on the ground. Creepy, strange.. I followed my feet carefully as we walked when we started to notice glass jars and containers strewn across the grounds. Most of them broken or buried by the ages of time.
We recovered a bunch of jars, which you see, and 2 in particular that caught my interest. One is a small jar with a dog embossed on one side, and some sort of measurement on the other. Looks like an old medicine bottle. The other was a rectangle shaped bottle with these words on it : FURST-McNESS CO. FREEPORT, ILL.U.S.A.
Ok, Time to break out google and do some research!
I found this site, the original creators of the bottle.
McNess.comThe History of Furst-McNess Company...Furst-McNess Company was started in 1908 in Freeport, Illinois. The company served area farmers and small town people with a quality line of livestock remedies and household products. At that time, Frank Furst, a young Freeport lawyer, joined his talents and ambition with those of Frederick McNess, a brilliant pharmacist in this new venture. Horse drawn delivery buggy from early 1900s right from the start, our companys line included effective livestock products such as McNess Saltonic.
Now I have to wonder.. The bottles had to have appeared in VA sometime
after 1908 but befor 1967. a meer 59 year timeline to find out when this house was last used with consistancy.
Considering transportation in that timeline (more likely to be 1955 that the house would have been officially abandoned) from horse drawn buggies, to not the most dependable of shipping vehicles, how did these bottles get from illinois, to virginia?
That's 789 miles people. Not a lil treck down the east coast lol.

I sent an email to the McNess company 3 days ago asking about more information on the bottles. They haven't responded.
Fascinating though isnt it?... then again.. maybe its just me ^__^

unfortunally, the only placed i know around here is a tiny old house in the woods by my house, but the whole roof's gone, so it's basically a ruin, and old bomb store from the 2d world war (which is VERY boring), and the quarry & it's buildings.
I'd LOVE to find someplace like this, i can see how it's creepy though... that hunting chair... eek!

You smell the stench of vinegar, then think, Its used as a preservative, or a smell of decay. We found a bone there but it looks to be deer or cattle of some sort. The cellar has torn up dirt inside, but I wasnt going in to find out more o.O

Take the hand of the reaper and follow him to eternity.
I'm worth $1,553,009.
Most abandonded buildings in my area have been destroyed. The few that weren't have either been made into tourist attractions, or are too difficult to check out.
